No Bake Lactation Cookies

I took this picture one day while I was nursing Avery. I thought to myself what a special bond we share and I didn't ever want to forget that moment. Look at those beautiful blues!

When I started breastfeeding, I came across a few lactation cookie recipes on Pinterest, but I never tried any of them.  I had it in my mind that they would not taste like real cookies and I would not like them.  However, I had tried a new diet at the beginning of the year and after just 3 days, my milk supply dropped drastically.  I was in a panic to get my milk supply back up.

There are several things you can do to increase milk production if you find you have a dip in your supply.  I am a milk cow, so I didn’t think I would ever have to try to increase my supply.  There are several things that I was doing to get it back up.  Some mothers take fenugreek, drink mother’s tea, etc.  I started off with power pumping and drinking lots of water.  I had heard moms say that lactation cookies were a good thing to try.  I spent many hours pinning away trying to find a recipe for lactation cookies that I could try.

This recipe was definitely a winner.  The ingredients reminded me of a no bake cookie that I had tried at a friends house, so I was hoping they would taste the same.  My recipe is adapted from the Boobie Bites recipe from a blog called I Can Teach My Child.  What I like about this recipe is that they make me feel like I’m being naughty, but they are actually pretty healthy for you!  I usually make a batch every week or so throw them in the fridge and they are easy to grab and go!  And the best part of the recipe?  The fact that they do work!  I could definitely tell a difference in my supply!

Valentine’s Day DIY

For the month of love, I find myself reflecting on what a busy month we have had with our loved ones, starting with a trip to my hometown to visit my sick Grandpa.  Before I get to my projects, I have to share some pictures from our visit.

I sewed a flag for my brother's grave sit with his brand on it. I can't believe in April he will have been gone a year. It breaks my heart that he isn't with us anymore and that Avery will never get to meet her amazing Uncle Karlton. Miss you brother. Not a day goes by that you don't cross my mind.

Now that I am in tears, I will get to my projects. We had a mini photo shoot to make our Valentines and now that baby girl is mobile, I will say it was not easy! She was constantly crawling off or pulling on the banner or teddy bear.

I love this one, but of course once the baby would smile and look at me, the dogs were not. Lol

This was as good as it got for the pictures with the dogs. Chloe looks thrilled, but at least they were all looking!

For the Valentines, I punched a small hole in the bottom of the card and tied some bakers twine around the front.

Another project I made was a banner for our living room.  I did a Valentine’s Day chalkboard and hung the banner above it.  I love how it turned out!

I made an Our Love Story banner to hang above our chalkboard in the living room.
Our Love Story.
The flag looked perfect with my frame "wreath" that my mom and I made over Christmas of 2014. For Valentine's month, I switched out the ribbon and added some glittery hearts. The flag and wreath together looked too cute for words!

DIY Photo Album for Babies

With Christmas coming up, I have been trying to figure out what all to get our little munchkin.  Since she is only 6 months old, it is easy to not go crazy since she doesn’t know any better, but nonetheless, I still want her to have a fun first Christmas.  Alex and I had decided it would be fun to start the four gift tradition with her.  You know…something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read.  Then we will do one Santa gift and a stocking.  Her something to read will be this book!

Since we live so far away from everyone, I still want Avery to know everyones names and faces,  Luckily with FaceTime, we do get to see our grandparents a lot.  I found this little photo album on Amazon.  I liked it because you can put 15 pictures in it, which was much more than other ones  I looked at and we have a big family!  I also liked that it is soft a flexible so she can slobber and chew on it!  I just printed out girls on purple and boys on blue and used washi tape that I had left over from a previous project.  It is zebra, so I figured it went with the animals on the front cover!

I love that the last page is a mirror for her!  This will be a great way to help her learn everyone’s names and titles!  What are some things you have done for your baby’s first Christmas?  I would love to hear other ideas!
