We have been getting ready for Christmas in the Tafoya house the past few days. Alex and his friend Jimmy had a few brewskis and put the tree up, so Avery and I put the lights on and decorated it!
Avery was very interested in what mommy was doing! After I got it all decorated I held her up and she just gazed at the lights and all the breakables in awe! lolAnd before you ask, those two stockings are for the dogs, no announcements this Christmas!
So much has changed since last year! We have a 5 month old! I can’t believe it! Before I get to my tutorial, check out the new family ornament that I added to the tree this year!

I had plans to make a cute little shadow box with Avery’s hospital hat and bracelet. Then I got to thinking, after she gets older where would I hang it? I decided to put them in a glass ornament so we can get it out every year at Christmas time! I love how it turned out! Before I get to the tutorial, just a little flashback to my little squish when she wore her hospital hat.

DIY New Baby Ornament

Role call of materials.I pulled the top off and set the bulb down in the tray to hold it there. Avery’s hat actually consisted of a hospital hat with another hospital hat as the bow, so I had to really work it in there! After I finally squeezed it in, I added her hospital bracelet.Add your vinyl and boom!Action shot with the lights on!
I don’t get a whole lot of time to sit down and sew anymore. So today, I made sure that I had some time to get Avery’s Thanksgiving outfit sewed up and ready for Turkey Day next week. Sure, I could have bought an already made one, but that is not as fun for this crafty mama! I am a part of a few sewing groups on Facebook and my newsfeed has been flooded with adorable turkey outfits and Avery needed her very own! What I love about this project was I just used a bunch of scrap fabric that I had piling up and so it was very cheap!
DIY Turkey Onesie
Materials:
Scrap Fabric
Heat and Bond or Wonder Under
Brown Felt
White Felt
2 Buttons
Coordinating Thread
I made a template in my Silhouette and you can download my Turkey Template. I did my onesie front and back, because let’s face it, Avery needed some turkey feathers on her booty! Cut out the template and trace your parts onto some Heat and Bond or Wonder Under.
Trace out your pieces on the Heat and Bond.
Then place the pieces on your fabric for the feathers, body, eyes, and beak. Make sure you have your fabric RIGHT SIDE DOWN before you iron it on. If you iron the pieces onto the fabric before you cut it out you make less of a mess with the Heat and Bond! I figured that out the wrong way last time I played with the stuff!
Make sure to iron the pieces on with the right sides down!
After you iron on the pattern pieces, go ahead and cut out your pieces. Place the pieces how you want them and peel off the backing before ironing down. I found that the felt pieces didn’t iron on well, I am assuming because of the thickness of the felt, so I had to pin those down before zigzagging around the felt. After ironing it all onto your onesie, zigzag around each piece with coordinating thread. Take your time, it takes some patience, but it is worth it to go slow! After that, you just need to sew on the eyes and the snood! (Yes I had to use Google to see what that red dangly thing was called!)
Zigzag the pieces down with coordinating colors.I can’t wait to see my girl’s little feather booty!I used my pinking shears to cut mini feathers for the headband. I just used a few buttons and piece of circle felt and glued down the feathers then placed it on a piece of elastic. The googly eyes were the perfect touch! I just used scrap cardstock for the beak and snood.
I will have to add a picture of my little turkey wearing her outfit next week! For now I will leave you with my snoozing little turkey…

We have a 5 month old! I can’t believe it. She is growing so fast! I am soaking up every moment of being a mommy! I decided that it was time to do our first art project and Avery loved it!
Our sweet girl is getting so big! She loves playing peekaboo and is rolling all over the place.
So we actually did some Christmas art, but since they are Avery’s Christmas presents for family, we can’t show them off just yet! We did, however make daddy some artwork for his birthday later this month and we were so excited that we gave it to him early, so I can show it off!
I knew I wanted to do some footprint art with her and had read up on a few tips for footprint painting with babies so I thought I would share them and some we came up with on our own! One of the blogs I found said it was a good idea to have everything set up and ready and to do the project right after a nap so that baby would be in a good mood.

While Avery was taking her afternoon nap, I covered the table in trash bags and got everything ready to go. I cut all the paper we needed with a few extras in case we messed up. Babies wipes are a must! I found some Crayola finger paint. I wanted to make sure we had something washable and non toxic. Make sure to have two paper plates for each color. One to put paint in and the other I used as a dabber for excess paint. The other must is a Bumbo chair. This helped a lot to keep baby in one place!
Baby girl was well rested and ready to go!Next, strip baby down to her diaper and make sure you have some paint clothes on as well!
I just started an assembly line and started stamping. It was so funny, she even seemed like she knew that she needed to press her toes down when I took her heel and guided her foot. She had a blast!
We made a Nebraska Huskers N footprint for daddy’s birthday!
I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the letters and glued them on, but you could just print it off and do the footprints on the page if you don’t have one!
We got to celebrate Avery’s very first Halloween last night! I love Halloween, so I have been preparing for this for awhile now. You know me, I spent plenty of time on Pinterest trying to narrow down what I was going to dress her up as. My first idea that I found was a Rockford Peach from A League of their Own. I planned on making myself one too and then Alex could have dressed up as Tom Hanks from the movie as well! Then I pondered Rainbow Brite for awhile. Then I decided on a 50’s girl. And let me tell you, there is nothing more adorable than a little miniature 4 month old size poodle skirt!
I was set on making her Halloween costume and the poodle skirt was really easy for my first baby clothing. I found a tutorial from One Creative Housewife. I did have to play with the measurements a bit since it was a baby sized, but overall I followed the tutorial. I found a cute mini poodle from Hobby Lobby and used an old dog tag chain as the leash. I had planned on making my own, but my grandma had one already sewn up, so I just had her send that one to me!
Here is the outfit before I added the cute baby and accessories!I decided that instead of buying expensive trick or treat bags, I am going to make it a tradition to make a Halloween bag personalized to match her outfit every year. It was only fitting that she had a treat bag with a record on it!Avery’s great grandma Wanda Jean sent her the perfect sneakers to dress up the outfit!The glasses only made it for pictures, but they were adorable! Who knew they made baby sized cateye glasses!My smiley girl! She loves the camera….and when mommy sings “How Much is that Doggy in the Window” while taking pictures! That’s my secret folks!Daddy and Mommy took baby to Mall-o-Ween for some indoor trick or treating fun! She was the cutest baby there, but don’t tell!She loved looking around at all the people in the mall. Our little people watcher!We’re ready for the sock hop!
